The shallow geothermal energy development in Henan Province originated in the 1990s, but its effectiveness was very limited. At the same time, shallow geothermal energy development in Henan Province still has the following problems to face:

First, the status quo of development is unclear, blindness is relatively large, and management planning and guidance of relevant departments of the province are lacking. Heat pump companies can easily swarm to large areas.

Second, shallow geothermal energy survey and evaluation work has not received due attention. Most of the existing application projects have not undergone a preliminary geothermal survey of shallow geothermal energy, and have been severely disconnected from hydrogeology, engineering geology, and other specialties. The consequences are unpredictable. The shallow geothermal energy survey and evaluation work in the area should be emphasized, but the delay in the establishment of the survey results in the inability of the survey results to guide the rational application of shallow geothermal energy.

Third, there is a lack of research and monitoring of the effect of the existing project's operation, thermal equilibrium and its impact on geological environmental conditions. The improper selection of ground source heat pump systems in some areas has caused serious consequences. Taking Kaifeng as an example, there are probably more than 100 projects in the region that engage in ground source heat pumps, but a large part of them are "false recharge." The establishment of a restraint mechanism should include early-stage surveys and late-stage supervision. Inconsistent management or lack of management and offside will result in ineffective treatment of serious problems such as “false reinjection”.

Fourth, the development, survey, design, and construction companies have not established entry conditions and the quality of construction varies greatly. Although the development of the ground source heat pump industry in Henan Province has achieved great results, the management of some areas is not good, and the overall contradictions are still quite obvious.
