Cummins engine maintenance

Maintenance is the key to reducing the cost of use. A diesel engine needs regular maintenance according to the maintenance schedule in order to maintain effective operation. Preventive maintenance is easy and economical maintenance. It allows the maintenance department to work at the right time. Different types and models of engines, its maintenance cycle and the content is slightly different, please refer to the engine maintenance manual. In the following, the N and K series engines are briefly described as an example of their maintenance cycle and content.

( 1 ) Class A maintenance inspection ( daily inspection )

A daily engine daily report is made and provided to the maintenance department.

1 Report content:

1 ) whether the oil pressure is low;

2 ) Whether the power is insufficient;

3 ) Is the cooling water or oil temperature abnormal?

4 ) Is the sound of the engine abnormal?

5 ) whether smoke;

6 ) Is coolant, fuel, or engine oil excessive?

7 ) Check for coolant, fuel, or oil leaks.

2 check the engine:

1 ) Check the engine oil level;

2 ) Check the engine coolant level.

3 check the water pump belt;

4 check the marine gearbox;

5 Check the engine for leaks, bumps, looseness, etc.

( 2 ) Class A maintenance inspection ( week inspection )

1 Repeat weekly inspections.

2 Check the air filter and intake resistance: Clean or replace the air filter.

3 Release the water in the reservoir.

4 Release sediment from the tank.

( 3 ) Class B maintenance inspection

Period: chart method or 250h , 6 months or mileage of 16,000km . At each B -level maintenance inspection, all A -level inspections must be completed, plus the following:

1 ) Replace engine oil:

1 start the engine to reach the operating temperature, then stop the engine, release the oil;

2 loaded playback screw plug;

3 Inspect the oil dipstick so that the oil level reaches the "H" mark;

4 start the engine, visually check for oil leakage;

5 Stop for 15min and check the oil level.

2 ) Replace the filter:

1 full-flow oil filter;

2 -side general oil filter;

3 fuel filter.

3 ) Check the coolant: check the engine coolant DCA concentration, replace the cartridge if necessary and add DCA4 additive

4 ) Check the oil level.

5 ) Clean or replace crankcase ventilators, air compressor ventilators.

6 ) Check the zinc plug.

( 4 ) Class C maintenance inspection

The maintenance inspection period is 1500h , 1 year or 96,000km .

During each C -level maintenance inspection, all A- and B -level inspections must be completed, plus injector stroke adjustment and valve clearance adjustment.

1 " cold " : The engine should be shut down for at least 4h at the ambient temperature to be adjusted to achieve a stable temperature;

2 " Hot adjustment " : The engine oil temperature is above 99°C for at least 10 minutes, or immediately after the normal oil temperature is reached, adjust the injector and valve.

Cummins engine injector stroke and valve clearance must be adjusted by specially trained personnel.

( 5 ) Class D maintenance inspection

The maintenance inspection period is 4500h , 2 years or mileage is 288000km .

During each D -level maintenance inspection, all A -level, B -level, and C -level inspections must be completed, plus the following:

1 Clean and calibrate the injector and fuel pump.

2 Check, repair or replace the supercharger, shock absorber, and air compressor.

3 repair or replace the fan Yi, water pump belt tensioner assembly, water pump.

( 6 ) Seasonal inspection

1 ) Spring:

1 steam cleaning the engine;

2 tightly installed bolts;

3 check the crankshaft axial clearance;

4 Check the heat exchanger congestion every year or as needed.

2 Fall:

1 Clean and flush the cooling system;

2 replace the need to replace the hose;

3 Clean the appliance connector and check the battery. [3]
