Automatic shut-down? See if your iPhone battery is healthy

At the end of November 2016, Apple introduced an “iPhone 6s shutdown” solution, and some iPhone users can replace the battery for free. On December 6, Apple said it will add a diagnostic feature to the iOS software update to collect iPhone battery information from relevant users. At present, Apple has said that it has added a feature to the iPhone that allows iPhones that still have unexpected shutdowns to be restarted without the need for external power. This new feature comes from the iOS 10.2.1 system that was introduced on January 24, 2017.

To determine if your iPhone battery is healthy and needs to be replaced, you only need 2 steps:

â—† Open Settings - Battery. If you see "iPhone battery may need to be repaired", your battery is not healthy, as shown below; if you don't see it, it means no problem.

In addition, the problem of the iPhone automatically shutting down seems to have been resolved. According to Apple, there are two cases of automatic shutdown:

â—†A small number of iPhone 6s devices manufactured between September and October 2015, when a battery component was exposed to the battery in a controlled environment for too long before being loaded into the battery pack, resulting in an abnormal automatic shutdown;

â—† iPhone 6 and 6s battery are normally worn out. The old battery may have unstable power supply during use, which causes the system to shut down automatically.

The above two cases are different. The first case has been solved by replacing the battery. As for the second case, Apple said:

For the 6th and 6s users who have experienced automatic shutdown, because of the upgrade of iOS 10.2.1, the number of automatic shutdowns, the iPhone 6 is reduced by more than 70%, and the iPhone 6s is reduced by more than 80%. If it still shuts down automatically, iOS 10.2.1 will automatically restart the iPhone after shutting down. You don't need to connect to the power supply to reboot.

In short, aging of lithium batteries is a difficult problem to solve. If your iPhone battery ages very badly and you may face an automatic shutdown after upgrading your system, you will need to replace it with a new one.
