At present, the universal application of smart packaging in countries all over the world has only just begun. Some technologies are still in the experimental and research stage. How do we seize this opportunity to develop the packaging industry in China and upgrade the technological content of China's packaging to suit the international economic situation in the new situation? Need, this is an unavoidable issue.
Dr. Li Dongli from the Beijing Institute of Graphic Arts, who is in need of smart packaging, said: “At present, the domestic food safety situation is very serious and has reached an imminent level. Therefore, we need not to increase the intelligence of packaging and maximize the use of various means to ensure food safety. Smart packaging is a powerful measure to ensure food safety, and it needs urgent development."
Smart packaging has gained sufficient attention and development in developed countries, but in China, smart packaging R&D and application in various fields are still at the initial stage. However, he also pointed out that from another point of view, although the application of smart packaging in China still lags behind developed countries, China's smart packaging market has a broad profit margin waiting to be tapped.
Differences in the development of smart packaging at home and abroad In general, only the temperature-time history (TTI), packaged foods (MGI), photochromic indicator, physical impact identification, leakage, and microbial contamination are commonly used in foreign countries. , radio frequency tags (RFID), DNA (DNA) tags, etc. are defined as smart packaging; and modified atmosphere packaging, antimicrobial packaging, ethylene adsorption packaging, oxygen packaging, self-heating/self-cooling packaging, odor absorbent packaging, Aroma-flavored release packages, hygroscopic packages, etc. are defined as functional packages.
In terms of functional packaging, domestic air-conditioned packaging and aromatic flavour release packaging are still relatively mature; gas adsorption type packaging (hygroscopic, ethylene-absorbing, and oxygen-absorbing) generally takes the form of sachets, and the technical content is not high, but developed abroad. Gas adsorption packaging has been able to blend non-toxic adsorbents into the interior of the film resin; other functional packaging and many smart packaging are still almost blank in China.
In addition, in these smart packages, RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) electronic tags are a well-known area in the country. The increase in the government’s efforts to strengthen supervision over medicines and foods at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games has promoted the use of RFID tags in China and has been used in logistics, packaging, retail, and manufacturing industries. Intelligent identification technology will be applied in some areas (such as pharmaceuticals, high-grade foods), but China will not become a big consumer of RFID tags because intelligent identification technology has not yet entered the daily consumer market according to the consumption level of the general public.
The high cost of factors that affect the development of smart packaging in our country has always been one of the main factors that hinder the development of smart packaging. The popularity and application of technologies such as chips and printed antennas, circuits, etc. that can be used for packaging are not as simple as traditional printing, how to install and manage related infrastructures, how to place e-readers, and retrieve, use and store labels. The technology of information is complicated and expensive. Therefore, product transformation is not something that all domestic packaging and printing companies can do. At present, there is still a certain gap between their investment in smart packaging technology, the introduction of talents, and the renewal of equipment and materials.
Because the ordinary people lack understanding of the importance of packaging, resulting in smart packaging, high prices, no market, affecting product development and promotion, so the country should actively promote the use of smart packaging, and even mandatory use, in order to better contain counterfeit and shoddy products. At the same time, the country should also increase its investment in scientific research in food packaging, encourage independent research and development and apply for national research projects, and introduce necessary flexible packaging testing equipment.
Research institutions must strengthen personnel training, speed up the pace of research and development, and actively cooperate with flexible packaging manufacturers to convert technology into productivity as quickly as possible. For soft packaging companies, China's flexible packaging market has just started, and the market space is large. Even at the “winter” time, companies must increase the investment in new product development, strengthen the alliance with universities or research institutions, occupy the priority market, and broaden the development of enterprises. the way.
