It is reported that GE Marine will provide two LM2500 steam turbines for the fast ferry "Francisco" of Argentina's Buquebus company. The two parties signed a 10-year customer service agreement.
GE will provide planned and unplanned turbine maintenance services for the world's fastest merchant vessel, including on-site service support, component repair and replacement, engineering, technical and troubleshooting support, and engine leasing.
It is understood that on June 15, 2013, the "Francisco" reached a speed of 58.21, becoming the fastest merchant ship in the world. Built by the Australian shipyard Incat, the catamaran has a displacement of 1,516 tons and can take more than 1,000 passengers and 150 cars. The two GE steam turbines on board allow the vessel to operate at speeds of more than 50 knots when operating LNG fuel or marine gasoline fuel.
